Eat Right Program

What is a Food Habits Coach? What do you do?

A Child Food Habits Coach is one who focuses on creating healthy eating habits and a positive association with food and meal times.

As a Food Habits Coach, I work with parents to help change their child’s attitude towards food and steer them towards healthy and balanced eating habits. Specifically, as a Food Habits Coach, I work with my clients to understand in detail their unique situation (child eating habits, preferences, challenges and patterns, etc.) to develop a tailor made, customized, Food Habits Plan to help them with the child. I then work with them with the implementation of the plan to help maximise the success of the program.

As with any lifestyle, good habits can be learned…including, of course, how children behave and eat while presented with their meals. Fostering healthy eating habits is a lifelong gift that a parent can pass on to their children. This is what I focus on and do with the Eat Right Program.

How long will it take to see results?

Most people have noticed meaningful and positive differences in their child's attitude towards eating and food within 2 weeks of implementing the Eat Right Program. Results do vary a bit depending on the child and his / her age. Rest assured if you follow the Eat Right Plan consistently then positive changes will follow.

What is your training? Are you a doctor or a dietician?

I am graduate from the International Maternity Institute, USA, have obtained certifications in Child Nutrition from Texas A&M University, and have learned from other international experts in the field. In addition, my training proudly also comes from my own experiences as a mother of two young children.

I am not a Dietcian or a Doctor. If you have any health related concerns for your child, please consult with your doctor or other licensed professional.

What ages do you work with?

I work with children up to the age of 7 years with the Eat Right Program.

My child is underweight. Will you help her to put on weight?

If your pediatrician believes your child is underweight he will give you the appropriate diet suggestions, if any. Children who regularly eat healthy portions of a balanced diet, who get sufficient physical exercise for their age and do not have any health problems, generally do not have issues with their weight. My job is to help you teach your child to learn to enjoy a healthy, balanced, diet and to thereby learn to have healthy eating habits which he/she will carry to adulthood.

Will there be a lot of crying and tantrums from my child?

Depending on your child's temperament you may see some crying and may be even tantrums. However, this is not the norm for most children implementing the Eat Right Program. However, I will prepare you for all of this during our consultations and guide you in terms of all the challenges to expect while implementing the program.

Will I have to cook separate meals for my child to implement this program?

Not at all! The aim of the Eat Right Program is to simplify your life while making healthy choices for your child and family.

One of my children is a picky eater while the other is fine.

Children have different personalities, temperaments, likes, and dislikes. While your methods worked beautifully for one child, the same may not be the best for your other child. This is why I do not believe in a one size fits all policy. I treat each child individually and customize a plan only after understanding and taking into account that child's unique considerations.

I was a fussy eater as a child! Is that why my child is picky?

Fussy eating is not genetic. It is a habit. Every parent wants their child to have the best start to a healthy life. In today’s world where children are exposed to too many unhealthy food choices it is very important that we instill healthy eating habits from a young age. Eating habits learned in childhood generally carry on in adult life.

My child takes forever to finish her bite or meal.

This is a very common problem among toddlers and “Yes” the Eat Right Plan can help you with such problems.

My son drinks a lot of milk but refuses to eat food.

While children do need milk for their growth and nutrition, a 4 year old needs a lot more wholesome nutrition to promote a healthy development. So it is important that a 4 year eats a healthy, balanced diet (food and milk).

Do I need to buy a full package? I just have a few questions.

You have the option of a time based consultation as well. Please write me an email or text message or, if you prefer, you can call me with your queries. I can quickly help you decide if you should sign up for the hourly consultation or the standard package.

Will I have to eliminate all sugar/sweets from my child’s diet?

"Moderation" is the key word. And this is a central philosophy of the Eat Right program.

My child is overweight. Will you put him on a diet?

If your pediatrician believes your child is overweight he will give you the appropriate diet suggestions, if any. Children who regularly eat healthy portions of a balanced diet, get sufficient physical exercise for their age and have no health problems, generally do not have issues with their weight. My job is to help you teach your child to learn to enjoy a healthy, balanced, diet and to thereby learn to have healthy eating habits which he/she will carry to adulthood.

I have two kids. Will I have to buy two packages?

Families with twins or multiple children enrolling in the Eat Right Program at the same time, can benefit from a 50% off the additional package. For siblings, two separate packages need to be taken to reflect the fact that age differences, as well as unique characteristics of each child, need to be taken into consideration for developing a customized Eat Right Plan. In case you want your children handled separately, i.e. you want to get one child trained with the program before starting the next child, then we will have to treat them as two separate packages.

Do you work with Clients outside of Gurgaon? Is a face-to-face meeting required?

I have worked with clients across India and even internationally. As such, a face-to-face interaction is not essential for a successful consultation. All virtual consultations take place (by appointment only) over telephone or Skype. All of the materials included in your package are delivered via email. Consultation fees for virtual calls need to be made through internet banking or cash before the commencement of the call.

Is it better to have an in-person consultation instead of over the phone?

In general, my past clients have not experienced any difference in their success rates between an in-person and virtual consultation. The process I use to evaluate a case and develop a customized program and recommendation is exactly the same for in-person or virtual consultations.

Sleep Right Program

What is a Sleep Coach? What do you do?

A Baby Sleep Coach is a professional who can aid you in teaching your baby the skills necessary to put themselves to sleep. Unlike sitting up or rolling over, good sleep habits are not innate to a baby! Being able to put themselves to sleep is a skill most babies need guidance to learn…and they are fully capable of learning this. A Baby Sleep Coach can provide the information and support you need in teaching your baby develop healthy sleep habits he/she needs for healthy development.

As a Sleep Coach, I work with the parents to understand in detail their unique challenges and situation (home setup, family, child habits and patterns, etc.) to develop a customized, Sleep Plan to help them with the child. I then help them with the implementation of the Sleep Plan to help maximise the success of the program.

What is your training? Are you a doctor or a psychologist??

I am a certified Maternity and Child Sleep Coach. I have learned through my own experience as a mother of two young children and furthered it studying from international experts in the fields by later advancing my education with the International Maternity Institute, USA. I am also a member of the Association of Professional Sleep Consultants.

I am not a Doctor or a Psychologist. If you have any health related concerns for your child and their sleep habits, please consult with your doctor or other licensed professional.

What is the best age to begin sleep coaching?

Instilling good sleep habits can begin the day you bring your baby home. Sleep coaching, however, generally begins around 5 months of age. At this age most children are developmentally ready to take longer naps and consolidate their nighttime sleep.

However, expecting parents can begin establishing good sleep habits right from the start. I think we can all agree that it’s easier to start your child off on the right foot than addressing challenges later.

What ages do you work with?

I typically work with children up to the age of 6 years. However, I have occasionally worked with older children as well.

How long does it take to see results?

Given that no two situations are the same, it is hard to say definitively when results will be achieved. However, in my experience most parents can expect positive results within two weeks...and some in just a matter of 3-4 days. The important thing is to be 100% committed to the Sleep Right Plan and follow it consistently to achieve the desired results..

Will my baby cry during the coaching period?

Young children communicate happiness with smiles and laughter, and displeasure with unhappy noises or crying. This is their basic way of communication!! When you make changes to their sleep habits there will be some level of protest. Crying is your child's way of protesting change.

However, with the Sleep Right Program, the basic approach employs a compassionate and practical method towards teaching your child positive and lasting habits. As such, the progrm is designed to keep the protests and crying to a minimum.

Does your program involve the baby crying a lot? Is this harmful?

The Sleep Right Program utlises a compassionate and practical method in its implementation. While there may be some amount of protest crying while training, the goal is to always try to keep it to the least minimum possible. The amazing thing about babies and toddlers is how smart and capable they are to understand a situation. Once they recognize the methods in the Sleep Plan, you will be surprised at how quickly their protests and cries turn to positive acceptance.

That said, I believe Gary Feldman (Medical Director, Stramski Disorders Center, Miller Children's Hospital ) answers this question best. In his own words he says:

"The crying during sleep training in itself will not affect the child psychologically. It's important for parents to understand something: the issues, the sleep disorder and the behavior disorder that the child has over the long term is actually probably worse than the few days or the week or so that the child is gonna spend crying. You must understand that they're crying when they're being trained. They're not gonna cry the same amount every night. It's gonna get less and less. But how it affects quality of life, how it affects the interaction between the parent in the daytime when you have exhausted parents and you have a child who's demanding. Think about it that way versus a child who's cried for a few days who's sleeping better, the parents are sleeping better. The child is not perceived as being demanding or irritating in the daytime, and generally, the quality of time and the quality of care that the child receives and the enjoyment that the parents get in the day is far outweighs the brief moments of crying that were encountered when they were training."

Do you work with children with special needs like Autism, Down Syndrome, etc?

I currently do not working with families whose children have special needs as it is outside my scope of practice.

All virtual consultations take place (by appointment only) over telephone or Skype. All of the materials included in your package are delivered via email. Both my children are bad sleepers. Do I need to buy 2 separate packages?

Families with twins or multiple children enrolling in the Sleep Right Program at the same time, can benefit from a 50% off the additional package. For siblings, two separate packages need to be taken to reflect the fact that age differences, as well as unique characteristics of each child, need to be taken into consideration for developing a customized Sleep Right Plan. In case you want your children handled separately, i.e. you want to get one child trained with the program before starting the next child, then we will have to treat them as two separate packages.

Can my child continue sleeping in my room?

My methods are always designed to suit your parenting styles. You will be involved in shaping the design of the Sleep Right Plan. So rest assured if you like to continue co-sleeping then the plan will be designed to include that.
